To maintain the highest level of academic excellence as a community in order to prepare every student and graduate to become life-long learners as well as productive citizens.


Public Relations Policy

In addition to the mission statement of the Benjamin E. Mays High School Alumni Association, the officers of the Executive Committee are committed to being both civically engaged and socially responsible.

It will be the policy of this body to refrain from engaging in negative exchanges in any forum, including social media outlets. It will be the responsibility of the elected officers to keep the legacy and uphold the image of excellence established by our beloved Alma Mater.

All statements regarding matters of the Benjamin E. Mays High School Alumni Association, its members, activities involving Benjamin E. Mays High School, the student body, faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers will be approved and released by the current sitting, elected President of the Executive Committee of the Benjamin E. Mays High School Alumni Association. 


Major Milestones

2010-The Benjamin E. Mays High School Alumni Association was established.

2012- Thomas E. Wood scholarship recipients are announced at the Inaugural Alumni Brunch

2013-First Homecoming Alumni Tailgate Kickoff to benefit the Thomas E. Wood Scholarship.

2014-Received 501(c)(03) status as charitable organization and the 1st Annual Blue Jeans & Bling Ball Benefit is held

2015-Record breaking class participation at 3rd Annual Homecoming Tailgate with 19 Alumni Classes, 3 vendors, and the first tailgate with the Southwest High School Wolves.

2016- New Board members elected, started clothing drive for Mays students, and hosted 4th Annual Homecoming Tailgate at the Georgia Dome.

2017-Awarded 7 scholarships to graduating seniors, the Class of 1987 hosted the most successful Alumni Brunch w/ speaker Dr. Cherry Collier, Alumni annual fees initiated, and purchased baseball field screen for Mays baseball team.

2018/19-Raised $10k+ for scholarship fund; Had over 220 in attendance at scholarship brunch; Awarded (2) $1000 scholarships (provided over $15K to date); Hosted Inaugural 5k with (3) sponsors, Jason Esteves, Publix, Dancing Goats; Mentored 20 freshmen; Took 21 Freshmen to Field Trip to Civil Rights Museum; Received class dues from 10/36 alumni classes; 3 Board members participated in the first round of interviews for new principal; Provided professional headshots for 20 alumni at career day; Co-sponsored Personal Finance Workshop with Right Path for 100 Mays Juniors; Helped re-charter the Mays PTSA

2019/20- Sponsored Breakfast for Annual College & Career Motivation Day; (Ongoing)

Additional Accomplishments Over The Years…

  • Awarded over $15,000 in scholarships as of May 2019

  • Provide police motorcade escort and coach buses on graduation day

  • Welcome freshmen on the first day of school

  • Sponsored 2 Art Students to attend a trip to Washington, DC

  • Assisted seniors with College Board testing

  • Supported the efforts of the athletic department

  • Assisted in efforts to keep students in uniform throughout the school year

  • Served as hall monitors and greeters at Mays High School throughout the school year
